Martin Rubey provides the following instructions for running FriCAS on Cygwin:

Damit
FriCAS auf MS Windows laufen kann, benötigen
wir
Cygwin.
- Hole also das Programm setup.exe von Cygwin und starte es.
- Beantworte alle Fragen mit den vorgegebenen Antworten, bis Du beim "Select packages" Dialog angekommen bist.
- Wähle zusätzlich zu den vorgegebenen Paketen das Paket
emacs-x11 (und vermutlich xinit) aus.
- Die restlichen Fragen können wieder mit den vorgegebenen Antworten beantwortet werden.
- Erstelle das Verzeichnis C:\cygwin-local, und speichere dann die Datei
fricas-1.0.8.cygwin.clisp.tar.bz2 darin ab.
- Starte nochmals das Programm
setup.exe, wähle aber diesmal die Option "Install from local directory",
und gib als "Local Package Directory" (NICHT als "Root Directory"!) C:\cygwin-local an.
Bei der Paketauswahl sollte dann FriCAS aufscheinen.
Wenn alles geklappt hat, kannst Du durch Anklicken des Cygwin Symbols eine
Konsole öffnen, dort gib dann
startx
efricas
ein.
In order to run
FriCAS on MS Windows, we need Cygwin.
- Download the program setup.exe from Cygwin and run it.
- Answer all questions with the answers given to you until you arrive at the "Select packages" dialog.
- Select the emacs-x11 and xinit packages.
- Confirm the preset answers to the remaining questions.
- Create the directory
C:\cycwin-local, and store the file
fricas-1.0.8.cygwin.clisp.tar.bz2 there.
- Re-run the
setup.exe program, but this time select the option "Install from local directory" and
enter as a "Local Package Directory" (NOT as "Root Directory"!) C: \ cygwin-local.
In the package selection you should see FriCAS.
If all goes well, you can click on the Cygwin icon to open a console, then enter the following.
startx
